My spin on the Ronnie Rig
Dan Foakes
The Ronnie is my go to rig. I have total confidence in both the presentation and it’s resetting abilities. Over the years I have made a number of small tweaks including the acute angle that I tend to use which gives a nice low-lying presentation and superb hook holds. My go-to hooklink is always Trickster Heavy braid in 35lb. I like the suppleness of this hooklink and fished with a large loop it offers little resistance and plenty of movement.
I tend not to use putty and trim my hookbait until I get a perfect presentation….here is how I tie my Ronnie in steps.
Start by taking a length of Trickster Heavy soft braid hooklink
Tie on a QC Hook Flexi-Ring Swivel with a figure of 8 loop
Size 6 Mugga, the perfect hook for a Ronnie!
Clip the hook on and slide down a piece of large Supa Shrink Tube
Shrink down with a lighter, I go for an agressive angle that keeps the rig nice and low!
Just add a Hook Ring Swivel and a Hook Bead
A large loop gives the rig plenty of movement
I try to avoid putty and trim down a pop-up until it balances or use a corkball thats rolled on a smaller cork than normal
